An email by a Mysurean, Girish Baga, to Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos about a delayed refund by Amazon India on a cancelled product got company officials to act quickly. The company refunded the amount in full and apologized for the delay.
Educationist and Kuvempunagar resident Baga wrote to Bezos about the delayed payment on Friday, November 24. On Monday, November 27, the amount was refunded.
Baga said that on September 22, he had ordered a blanket on the Amazon India website for Rs 1,434.51. In October first week, the product was delivered, but as he found some manufacturing defects, he opted to return the product.
“First, they declined to cancel the order and refund, stating they would replace the product. They sent a new product by October second week. I declined to accept it and requested a refund. Finally, they agreed to refund the amount in October last week,” he said.
“On Nov 24, I read a report in a newspaper about Bezos and decided to escalate the issue to him. I found his email address and sent him a mail. Around 6pm Saturday, I got a call from a number registered in Ireland. The caller said he had received an email from Bezos over my refunding issue. He assured me of resolving the issue. On Monday morning, Amazon refunded the full amount,” he said.
An executive sent him a mail on behalf of the CEO, saying he had noticed the mail. “I hadn’t expected such prompt action from the world’s richest person,” Baga said.
